Getting Back At It

One of the many great shots from last weeks impromptu shoot. This little guy couldn’t take a bad picture.
It’s been a while since I posted to the blog. Well it’s been a while since I have been shooting as well.
That nagging shoulder injury finally proved to be just too much so I had surgery on April 29. Fortunately the damage was not as bad as they thought it was so in the past few weeks I have been able to start doing some light shooting to get back in the mix.
I still can’t shoot with my 80-200, but the 50 and 28-75 are working fairly well for me.
I have completed 3 small shoots in the past three weeks and plan to do a larger shoot in the next 2 weeks to see how things go.
I am back to booking shoots now for late June and forward. Have a few specials offers I plan to announce soon so keep checking back and look for more posts and work from me very soon.
Learning and Growing…While Having Fun

Model June Homdayjanakul for a Chinese New Year themed shoot
Take time out of your busy working schedule to learn some new tricks and keep growing as a photographer.
I spent an afternoon in the studio working with a few fellow photographers on lighting during a Chinese New Year themed shoot last week. We had a lot of fun trying out different poses and lighting set ups.
This was my first time actually shooting on the cyc wall at the studio and figuring out how I wanted to light things in the future was fun.
Taking some time to practice will help with paid shoots in the future as I will have in my head the best way to light this or that and poses that work and don’t work.
Makes for happy clients and a happy photographer as well!
Quick Start
by Dizzle on Aug.31, 2008, under Gear, Portraiture
My oh so camera shy son decided to let me take his picture…and he smiled. He usually RUNS when he sees my camera so this is a rare shot, the smile makes it dang near a miracle shot.
Sometimes the perfect photo is simply the one captured. This portrait of my son Zachary has some flaws in it, but when you have a child (or adult for that matter) that does not like to be photographed and suddenly they ask you to take their picture…you go with what ya got!
There was no time to set up, no time to worry about this or that, I just had time to grab the camera and start snapping before he walked away.
I was so glad that I had started resetting my camera settings prior to putting my equipment away. I tend to leave the dial on Aperture Priority when I store my gear as that has been a fairly successful quick setting for me at times like this. I changed the white balance to cloudy since it was overcast and was able to start snapping away immediately.
I learned from an ealier mistake that just putting your gear way without at least taking a quick look can be disaterous.
Start a routine of how you store your gear and you will find that it makes the next shoot that much easier to get going.
Not So Traditional Portrait

Cute and shy always gets the girls. A brown bear poses at the Denver Zoo.
Myself and fellow photograper buddy Jenn took a few of our offspring to the Denver Zoo in Denver’s City Park for a fun outing and photography session.
I was once again testing out new equipment (the Canon 40D and Canon 55-250 stood up just fine to the rain) and just having fun with the kids.
This photo of a brown bear made me chuckle a bit as I was going through my images from the day. He posed for the camera better than some of my recent younger subjects…at least he sat still longer. ![]()

My new little buddy Sal flashes me a little smile. This kid is the most well behaved toddler I have ever come across!
Was over at my daughters school and this little guy caught my eye. He is adorable! Funny, when photographing kids, I always seem to get great captures of other folks’ kids, mine all seem to want to ham it up for the camera.
I am starting to get the feel for the 40D and starting to get back to what I know best…taking photographs of people being people…just out doing their thing!
