Christening the New Studio

Model Jere’ Hicks at the North Denver Photographers Studio during the first ever DeNic Photography Workshop.

DeNic Photography held its first ever photography workshop at the new studio in North Denver on the 24th. It was both a new beginning for me as I have never had a studio space to call home and a grand closing to the old NDPS space.

North Denver Photographers studio is a shared space amongst a number of local photographers who need studio space, but not the big overhead cost of our own individual studios. By pooling our resources we are all privy to having a top notch studio space available to us. And as of February 1st NDPS will be relocating to a much larger facility that allows us to do even more in studio.

To celebrate this new venture for DeNic Photography we are offering a short term special on our session fee. From now until March 15th the session fee will be $75 for two hours of shooting time for any booked and paid in full shoots.

To take advantage of this offer just visit the Contact page and fill out the form and I will get in touch with you ASAP.

Doh!

Over the summer I posted a blog entry about Always Being Ready with your equipment. Even when you do your best, sometimes a small item is forgotten.

When you put your camera gear away and think you have reset all your settings back to your baseline configuration…next time you go to shoot double check it.

I have been having a really odd issue with my camera and auto focus. Been having it for a while and it was to the point I was thinking I had a big issue and it needed to go back to Canon.

Basically every once in a while the camera would hunt for focus and never lock. I would have to go manual to get the shots I was after. Thought it was a lens issue and but then realized it was happening with all my lenses.

Happened yesterday at a Colorado Strobist Meet-up so I had had it. Body and all lenses were going to Canon for calibration!

But as I do, I started digging deeper online and found a suggestion that clicked in my head.

A while back I had shot a motorcycle race, set the AF to AI Servo to deal with the moving subjects. Since it is not something I hardly ever change, I never changed it back to one shot focus. I shot this race in September!!!!

I changed it back to One Shot focus and you guessed it… everything works just fine now.

DOH!

A Holiday Favorite…Learning Experiences

City and County 1, originally uploaded by DeNic Photos.

This HDR image of Denver’s City and County Building quickly became a fan favorite. I wanted to get a perspective that removed as many of the people as I could on this busy night in downtown Denver.

I took this image during a night outing with a local photography group.

I try to take part in as many group outings as I can. No matter the group, I always take something positive from it so I find them invaluable.

This month I have two group portrait workshops to attend to work on lighting and posing. I am looking forward to both of them as it gives me a chance to try out new ideas that I can then bring back to my clients.
