Playing In The Dark

Night shot of the Rebuplic Plaza on Denver’s 16th Street Mall at night.

Got hassled by security for “being on private property and photographing the building” by Top Flight Security. Odd since I had been out there for a good 30 minutes shooting away with a tripod and not one other security type said a word to me.

Boy do I love playing in the dark! When I look out at the horizon when the sun goes down I see a completely different world. Maybe it was that crazy trip to Vegas where my friend got lost on the Strip or maybe it was that other crazy trip to Hollywood where we lost the car…but the lights and the neon just bring out a different animal in me.

Many people laugh, but for me night photography is “easy” for me. I can look at a scene and know what settings I need to start with and know that within a shot or three I will have “the shot”.

Just because the sun goes down doesn’t mean that the shooting time is over.

Change Of Scenery

Mural-1, originally uploaded by Dizzle @ 2*3 Photos.

I came across this under the Speer Bridge in Denver. This is just one section of what is a very large mural that covers both sides of the street under this bridge.

I spend so much time taking photos of people that I tend to not leave my happy enclave of Centennial all that much. Sometimes a change of scenery helps to get the creative juices flowing.

I spent a good part of the day walking around the streets of Denver and found so many things that, well, I have just missed over the years. Or came across things that, when I looked at them again seemed very new to me.

Get out, explore, take a look at those same old things and look for that new perspective. I plan on doing this a lot more often to make sure that I am always looking at everything with a new set of eyes.

Taking Pictures of “Things”

by Dizzle on Jun.13, 2008, under Landscapes

Flowers–2, originally uploaded by Dizzle @ 2*3 Photos.

Came across this out front of the REI building in Downtown Denver near the Platte River.

Some folks are great at taking photos of people, some are great at taking photos of things. I am working on my “things”.

So today I went out and purposely did not shoot any images that included people. Instead I focused on flowers and water and whatever else I could find that wasn’t people.

This is my favorite shot of the day, simply because it was my first shot of the day and I think it came out fairly well.

Practice makes perfect…and no one is perfect so I am always practicing.

Enjoy!

Always Be Ready

I was out shopping and wandered up on a Mix 100 concert series at the Southlands Shopping area in Aurora, Colorado. The Hazel Miller Band was performing and as usual it was a standout show. Gotta love summer and the free concert series.

I have only just recently started taking my camera bag with me all the time. Currently, my bag set-up kinda sucks so I tend to leave it at home a lot, but I decided that I was missing too many photo-ops by not having my equipment so…I toss my bag in the backseat every time I leave the house now.

That is the only reason I got this shot. I was out running errands, heard a lot of ruckus so wanted to see what was going on…and there was the Hazel Miller Band about to end their free concert. I literally jumped out of my car, grabbed the camera and started shooting photos. I probably had about 2 minutes before Hazel walked off the stage, but I got the shot!

To make my life a lot easier I plan on getting a new bag to make carrying the daily needs of a photographer a bit easier. Right now my bag holds almost all my equipment, awesome for traveling, not so awesome for day to day shooting. I plan on getting something that will simply hold the things I need for a day outing.

Just A Cutie

by Dizzle on Jun.03, 2008, under Portraiture

sal-2-framed, originally uploaded by ~ Dizzle ~.

My new little buddy Sal flashes me a little smile. This kid is the most well behaved toddler I have ever come across!

Was over at my daughters school and this little guy caught my eye. He is adorable! Funny, when photographing kids, I always seem to get great captures of other folks’ kids, mine all seem to want to ham it up for the camera.

I am starting to get the feel for the 40D and starting to get back to what I know best…taking photographs of people being people…just out doing their thing!
